Review of Divergent by Veronica Roth

Divergent by: Veronica Roth

If you are careful about what you read then my ultimate advice to you about this book is....
Don't read it.
It's really hard to write a review on something that you just don't recommend, but I shall try my hardest.

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the YA scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

Age group:  It's supposed to be written for 16 to 20s
What reason: Romance, Violence, language

So normally I will put why it's for that age group but... I'm going to write the reason I don't recommend it. SO.... What reason: There is a couple bad words, Trish is uncomfortable with her body, so they talk on that a bit, All the  initiates sleep in the same room and showers and toilets are in the room as well... With no walls. There is alot of romance between Four (or Tobias) and Trish... they go into detail, There is also a part where she is in a fear simulator and one of the things she's scared of is being intimate..(in the way that only a wife should be.)  And honestly I skipped alot of it because while it was only kissing, it was uncomfortable to read. There is also a part where some guys are trying to throw her over a wall and one runs his hand over her (clothed) chest. Really the most disappointing part is Veronica Roth claims to be a christian...

If you really, Really, want to read Divergent I recommend *Parent editing* Which is something I made up! Basically you take said book to your Mom (or Dad) with a WhiteOut pen and ask them to get rid of the bad stuff! I didn't know about the bad stuff myself, but... I did have enough self- discipline to skip the parts. I've already *Parent edited* for my younger sister! (since the Divergent books were a Christmas present, and other then the romance and body talk I enjoyed them, I didn't want to get rid of them)

So while I can't recommend it without parent editing... With parent editing this is what I would say!

Divergent was a thrilling book, full of action! It has some great characters who are not just stereotypical but actually have some depth to them, ( My favorite character was mean to everyone and I still couldn't help but like him!) It has a good story line and leaves you wondering what will happen in the next book! (which also needs *Parent Editing)

So if you read the book please, please take my advice and have your parents edit it!

Thanks for reading!!!
