The Merchants Daughter - A book review

The Merchants Daughter
by: Melanie Dickerson

An unthinkable danger. An unexpected choice. Annabel, once the daughter of a wealthy merchant, is trapped in indentured servitude to Lord Ranulf, a recluse who is rumored to be both terrifying and beastly. Her circumstances are made even worse by the proximity of Lord Ranulf’s bailiff—a revolting man who has made unwelcome advances on Annabel in the past. Believing that life in a nunnery is the best way to escape the escalation of the bailiff’s vile behavior and to preserve the faith that sustains her, Annabel is surprised to discover a sense of security and joy in her encounters with Lord Ranulf. As Annabel struggles to confront her feelings, she is involved in a situation that could place Ranulf in grave danger. Ranulf’s future, and possibly his heart, may rest in her hands, and Annabel must decide whether to follow the plans she has cherished or the calling God has placed on her heart.

Everything below is my own opinion even age group suggestions.
Age Group: 14 on up.
Honestly I loved this book! I'm a big fan of Beauty and the Beast and this is loosely based off that tale! Melanie Dickerson is one of my favorite authors. Almost all of her books are based off fairy tales and she does it in such a way where it isn't the same story as the original. She also really does her research on the time period and everything is incredibly accurate. Even so far as speech habits. All in all I would highly recommend this book and for that matter the entire series! (I will be doing reviews on all of her books)

~ This may contain Spoilers~

If your worried about the romance: Obviously its a romance novel so there is some stuff but nothing bad where you'd need to skip it. There is flirting, kissing, hugging, touching hands and a girl sits in the lap of a man she's engaged to. And lastly, there is talk of a woman who never loved her husband  who is caught with another man. (it states it just like that, doesn't go into any detail.)

If your worried about the violence: This is the part where I'd warn people. The main character is attacked by a man who wants to take advantage of her a couple times throughout the book, she gets bruised and held down by him but always gets away and nothing else bad happens. It's written in a tasteful way where it isn't bad to read, but it is a part of the plot and serves to move the story along.

If your wondering about the overall cleanness of the book:  Other then what's written above, It's a clean book!

Other things found worth mentioning:

If your worried about the language: There is no bad language in the book.

If your wondering where God fit: This book as well as Melanie's other books all have a firm plotline that revolves around God, trusting in the Bible, learning about Christ and having faith in Christ even when things are going wrong!

~End of Spoilers~

I really enjoy Melanie's books. I've yet to read one that I don't like so I heartily recommend this book along with her others to young ladies looking for clean historical romance books. I just have to point out that they are romance books. There is kissing and touching of hands and hugging in every one of her books. So if you or someone you know wishes to read a lovely, clean romance I would recommend these above all else.

Thanks for reading and if you've read this don't forget to comment with your own thoughts!
