Review of The Healers Apprentice by Melanie Dickerson

Two Hearts. One Hope. Rose has been appointed as a healer’s apprentice at Hagenheim Castle, a rare opportunity for a woodcutter’s daughter like her. While she often feels uneasy at the sight of blood, Rose is determined to prove herself capable. Failure will mean returning home to marry the aging bachelor her mother has chosen for her—a bloated, disgusting merchant who makes Rose feel ill. When Lord Hamlin, the future duke, is injured, it is Rose who must tend to him. As she works to heal his wound, she begins to understand emotions she’s never felt before and wonders if he feels the same. But falling in love is forbidden, as Lord Hamlin is betrothed to a mysterious young woman in hiding. As Rose’s life spins toward confusion, she must take the first steps on a journey to discover her own destiny.

Age group: 14 and up
 What reason?: Magic, Romance.

I loved this book! Immediately I was hooked on Melanie's writing! She is amazing at writing books that you just don't want to put down, Her characters are interesting and she makes you feel like your right there with them!
She did a fantastic job of making sure they didn't do or say anything that wouldn't have been said or done  in that era.  You can tell she did her homework on this era, which is refreshing because I don't know about you, but I hate reading books from a point in history and they say things that are very modern. Like things that you know people never would have said at that point in history!
And the fact that they are based loosely on Fairy tale characters made it all the better! I love fairy tales and reading something for my age group that was based on one... Oh it just makes me so happy!!
Please make sure you read the Romance area below, even if you don't read anything else! Warning: These books are addicting! Haha!!

 ~Spoilers~

If your worried about the romance:
This book is quite romantic. There is kissing, handholding, hugging, flirting, and things are said like (just an example) "He lightly touches my wrist sending tingles up my arm." There is dancing. And one boy wants a girl to be his mistress.

If your worried about the violence:
Rose is attacked twice in the street. Sword fighting, And Someone is killed. Really everyone of Melanie's books involves sword fighting because they are set in the time of Lords, knights and princesses!

If your wondering about the overall cleanness of the book:
 There is a evil conjurer who basically is using black magic...This is not a good thing! It is said over and over how evil he is for being involved in that stuff. There is a part where he is saying someone sort of spell over Rose too. but the main part of the book is about catching him! There is also a part where someone in the book can see demons and is very afraid. They do cast them out in the name of the Lord.

Other things found worth mentioning:
Rose is a healers apprentice so they do go into detail about wounds sometimes like describing how the wound looks. There is a part where a young girl is attacked at night by a man (Who does tare her dress) but she gets away, Nothing happens.
If your worried about the language:
 There was none.

 If your wondering where God fit:
They prayed to him often and He was they're source of strength.  Melanie always adds something about God, but doesn't become preachy...

~~~End of spoilers!!~~
So if you want my opinion. (which you do otherwise you wouldn't be here! Haha!)
It's worth the read! I loved all Melanie's books and look forward to reading more of her writing!
